A Day in the Life
International Recruitment Consultant

The Recruitment Division of Global Career Company is key to the business. Although teamwork is the main watch word, it is a very consultative environment. Other attributes such as commercial awareness, relationship management, attention to detail, problem solving and customer service as well as analytical, negotiation and organisational skills are consistently utilised.
There is no typical day for a Consultant – one day you could be liaising with clients to understand their business requirements, the next day you could be in Manchester attending a professional networking event to source relevant candidates or researching your client’s competition to headhunt candidates for specific roles. On a different day you could be attending one of our many recruitment summits in Paris/Johannesburg/Sao Paulo/Lisbon/London, interviewing candidates to ascertain their suitability for a role, working closely with the marketing team to develop cost-effective and result-oriented attraction strategies or getting some relevant training based on your personal development plans.
We have multiple recruitment summits which take place around the world and work hard to ensure successful delivery of each of them. Between summits, we have mandates from our clients to recruit the best active/passive candidates in the market for specific roles. This is usually tailored to a company’s requirements and involves a clear understanding of their operations.
As a Consultant, you will liaise regularly with senior company executives and hiring managers from multinational and large regional companies, advising on their recruitment strategies. Knowledge of their business, culture and needs is important. You will also have the opportunity to develop personal interests. For example, in addition to my research/attraction/interview/networking interests, I am also interested in training & development. Global Career Company has provided a platform for me to develop this. I currently write part of the company’s newsletter on CV writing, interview skills and effective networking. I also regularly train the Recruitment Team on effective ways to use social networks (especially LinkedIn) to source candidates, manage clients and communicate with candidates.
A Consultant’s role with Global Career Company involves more than just finding a person with the right skills and experience to fill a position. Cultural fit is very important to ensure candidates and clients expectations are met; this is always an interesting challenge which is incorporated into our daily activities.
A recruitment career in Global Career Company won’t suit everyone as it can be very demanding. However, if you are up for a truly international and dynamic professional environment with exciting challenges and want a career that is personally and financially rewarding, then it could be right for you.
No two days are exactly the same.
