Caterpillar in China:
The company sold its first products in China in 1975 and opened an office in Beijing in 1978.  In the 1980s, Caterpillar launched technology transfer agreements with Chinese manufacturers who began building Caterpillar licensed products. Caterpillar’s expansion in China accelerated in the early 1990s with the establishment of a more significant local production strategy.  Caterpillar core products manufactured in China include hydraulic excavators, track-type tractors, motor graders and paving products, large diesel engines used primarily for marine and power generation applications and generator sets for use in the Asia Pacific region.  Caterpillar also manufactures components at several facilities in China.  In addition to core machine, engine and component manufacturing locations in China, Caterpillar operations in China also include logistics, remanufacturing, financial leasing, training, marketing and research and development.

Caterpillar in India:
 Caterpillar has sold and serviced products in India since the 1930s.  In the 1970s and 1980s, Caterpillar developed joint venture manufacturing operations as it expanded its presence in India.  The company currently manufactures off highway trucks, backhoe loaders, engines, engine components and generator sets in India.  In addition, Caterpillar established an Engineering Design Center in Chennai in 2002 to provide engineering support for product design and development.  Caterpillar Logistics Services India Private Ltd. in Bangalore develops logistics technologies and provides logistics services for Caterpillar in India.
