Alex Mugan: The chance to get involved and grow

Alex Mugan

I joined Global Career Company having done 7-8 years in education, publishing, print, sports and leisure and tech start-ups, so moving into the HR sector was both a new challenge, and the sort of change I was used to.

A few things about the company really interested me and helped make up my mind about joining. We’re doing business on a truly international basis, with some of the world’s biggest companies across multiple sectors. At the same time, we’re growing like a start-up, with offices opening throughout the world, new products, markets and people every week. It’s this combination of development, responsibility and a bit of brand glamour that makes working here enjoyable.

This environment has been a positive one for me personally too. The chance to get my hands on lots of different things has enabled me to take on responsibility, drive some projects and get promoted. It’s refreshing to have the opportunity to take your career forward as quickly as you are able and willing to. I don’t know of many other companies I could have done that in.

The day to day work of the Marketing Team now is made up of product development and positioning, B2B and B2C campaign planning and delivery, supporting our various regional teams around the world and talking to clients to help deliver their employer brand and sourcing programmes. It’s fast-paced and so far no two weeks are the same, though as we grow and build out processes, we’re trying to change that, a little bit anyway!

I’d recommend Global Career Company to anyone who wants to work in emerging markets, take responsibility and develop professionally in an international team made up of really good people. For anyone who, like me, is considering moving across from a different sector and has a question mark against HR. First, don’t be a snob – there’s leading edge work being done in this industry. Look at LinkedIn for example! Second, look at the number of emerging economies trying to naturalise their workforces, or the people trying to reverse the brain drain in Africa. We’re at the sharp end of that, helping companies in emerging markets deal with the biggest obstacle to their success, and the development of the countries they’re in. It’s an exciting place to be.

Asma Trabelsi: A Doctor in Microbiology Talent Scouting for Africa!

I hold a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Pierre and Marie Curie in France and I am a Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist in the international team at Global Career Company. The two may not seem related to you, yet the transition was natural and I love what I do!

As a Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist I am responsible for the Maghreb and African candidate attraction, and I am in charge of recruitment strategy implementation, identifying and developing new attraction channels, building relationships with schools, universities, first class business schools and associations around the world, managing social media channels and also completing African and North African market analysis.

So how does one get from a doctorate in Microbiology to Global Talent Attraction you may wonder?! Well I naturally started my career in the scientific field and quickly moved into recruitment, gaining extensive experience into technical and scientific recruitment working with international pharmaceutical companies and research institutions across Europe. I love the opportunity recruitment gives me to combine my scientific knowledge and technical skills with a more human approach and touch. And then moving to Global Career Company was the obvious next step for me given my own international background, and I just love being able to combine my experience and knowledge together with such a global outlook and an international team, as well as using my French and Arabic language skills on a daily basis!

A Day in the life of a Senior Events Manager – Lindsay Storie

Lindsay Storie

After growing up in South Africa, joining Global Career Company offered me the perfect opportunity to live in London but still work with and travel to Africa on a constant basis. I began working at Global Career Company three years ago and have grown ever since. Starting as an Events Executive assisting on our portfolio of events, I quickly grew in to the role of Events Manager where I now oversee all of our International Recruitment Summits, industry leading Conferences and our Employer of Choice Award dinners.

It is fair to say with such a diverse offering of services, no two days are ever the same here at Global Career Company, as one day the team and I could be running our Careers in Africa Recruitment Summit in New York, the next sat in Johannesburg at one of our Conferences. When I am not travelling my day would be made up of client calls with some of the world’s biggest multinationals, through to venue and supplier searches to ensure we host every event in the perfect location for those attending and with the best possible image. The afternoons are mainly made up of internal meetings ensuring the teams are aligned and projects are on track for delivery.

The team is probably the biggest reason I enjoy my role as much as I do as it is a closely knit team of highly skilled individuals from around the globe working together to ensure we deliver beyond our clients expectations.

A day in the life of a Client Services Manager – Annie Min

As a Client Service Manager at Global Career Company my role involves delivering world class recruitment services to our global based clients, through our products including Search & Selection, Recruitment Campaigns and Recruitment Summits.

Dealing with various exciting and challenging recruitment projects, I coordinate recruitment services and support our client services team. With clients from different industries and countries who are recruiting different nationalities my experience of international recruitment consultancy means that we can deliver results in international markets to recruit diaspora talents. My focus is always to look at how to fit our services into our clients’ people strategy to become their long term partners. My deep understanding of clients’ industry, business strategy and culture are key skills to help me achieve results.

I enjoy working within an international team. The different cultures, foods, music and languages make Global Career Company a fun place to work!

Prior to joining Global Career Company, I had 10 years recruitment experience both within recruitment agencies and corporate environments, ranging from entry level positions to top level executives. For me, leading my team to attract and source excellence across the world and find them bright career opportunities back in their home countries is such a fantastic job! There are not many other platforms that allow you to deep study and understand different African or Asian cultures and customs and to liaise with such an amazing talent pool!
